Isabella Margaretha Swanepoel (1922 - 1999)

Brief overview:

Isabella (77), and her husband, Jacobus Johannes Swanepoel (79), were strangled to death in their home at 5th Avenue, Georginia, Roodepoort, on 11th June 1999.

The elderly couple from Roodepoort who were very security conscious after another elderly couple recently attacked in the area, were robbed at home and brutally tortured before being killed.

Jacobus was found in the kitchen. Isabella was killed in the bedroom. They were presumably strangled.

Teasing questions enveloped the double murder, as presumably nothing was stolen from the house. Mrs. Swanepoel's jewellery, her diamond rings, among others, were found by her body.

Mrs. Marie Swanepoel, daughter of the couple, went to her parent's house on the Friday morning, about half past one, to take her mother to the library. She saw that security gate was open with the key still in the lock. The house had been ransacked.

She went to Florida police station. When she arrived back with the police, three other police vehicles were already on the scene. Swanepoel said police did not allow her to enter the house. "They said my parents are cruelly tortured and mutilated and I can't see them like that.

We don't even know why they were killed. even my mother's diamond rings were found on the floor with her. "the police suspect that the killers fled when I entered the front door. If so, I do not understand why they didn't attack me as well. My father was very safety conscious. There are burglar bars for every window Swanepoel said.

According to police, about four men were involved in the murder and that it may be the same people who murdered the other couple in the area several months ago.
