DAR Ancestor #: A200445
There is a portion of the descendants who were Mingo NA and it is due to the Francis Hoffson, tithable at Norfolk's West Side of the Elizabeth River community of Westson's Branch tithables. The Hodges cousins who went to MS identified with the Old Cheraw group that arrived prior to it becoming British West Florida. http://www.binnsgenealogy.com/FreeSample/CDR-000305/1732/1732Tith/1... The Hill family were earliest of traders, which follow the community transfers in groups.
Isham Hodge / Hodges was a blend of Scotch and Irish an Pan NA from Hodges Ferry Community for Colonial War Era census as specifically enumerated as a native community in the book called Indians of North Carolina.. When he came into this world about 1730, the Hodge / Hodges family was already well established and possibly living in Lunenburg, Virginia. From there, it appears they moved to Henry, Virginia. Interestingly, this is what happens with territorial boundaries, they change, and though the Hodges do not appear to have literally move, they suddenly lived in Franklin, Virginia. The part of Lunenburg, mentioned above, became part of another county, which became part of Franklin county when it was formed from Patrick Henry (1 county when established) and Bedford, Virginia. Perhaps, this is the reason they are thought to be the first settlers of Franklin. Franklin county was also an important site because of Ft. Blackwater, manned by Continental troops, built in the 1750’s. With the area also being occupied by Sioux Indians, it was a safer place to be on the frontier.
In 1751, Isham took a bride, Nancy Hill. They raised a family of at least 11 children. We know their names from his will. His will was written on March 29, 1782. Between that time and April 26, 1782, he appears to have died. His wife preceded him some years before. Mr. Hodges had grants and deeds on land on Chestnut Mountain and Chestnut Creek in Henry (Franklin now). He was probably buried on one of the plots with his wife.
Children of Nancy Hill & Isham Hodges: William, Nancy, Keziah?, Judith, Isham, Martha, Moses, Robert, Aaron, Asa, and Aimnijah (could be a male or female).
