Isobel Jerningham

Isabel Clifton, daughter of Sir Gervase Clifton and Isabel Herbert, was born circa 1434 at of Bradborne, Nottinghamshire, England.1

She married John Jerningham, Esq., son of Sir John Jerningham and Agnes Darell, in 1449.1,2 [1459] John Jerningham (d.1503), esquire, of Somerleyton, Suffolk, by whom she had two sons and several daughters, including:[2][3][4][5]

• 1. Sir Edward Jerningham (d.1515), who married firstly Margaret Bedingfield (d. 24 March 1504), and secondly Mary Scrope (d. 25 August 1548).
• 2. Sir Richard Jerningham (d.1525/6), Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to King Henry VIII, who married Anne Sapcote (d. 14 March 1559). After the death of Sir Richard Jerningham, Anne (née Sapcote) married John Russell, 1st Earl of Bedford, by whom she was the mother of Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of Bedford.
• 3. Margaret (or Mary) Jerningham, who married Thomas Stanhope, esquire, of Rampton; they were the paternal grandparents of Anne Stanhope.
