Israel Putnam (*)Hoffman, was the son of John and Catherine (Huff) Hoffman. His parents relocated about the year 1813, from Loudoun County, Virginia, to what is now Barbour County, West Virginia. He was the youngest of eleven children. He was married in 1830 (then Randolph County, Virginia) to Anna Black (1811-1897) and (**)died at his home near Arden in Barbour County. Anna was the daughter of John N. and Mary Ellen (Bussey) Black. She later married Conrad Carpenter.
CHILDREN (1850) Clarissa 18, William 17, Julian 15, Harriet 13, Margaret 11, John J 8, Mary E 6, Emeline 4, and Daniel 1 - HOFFMAN. (1860 adds: Henry L Huffman 8 and Levi R Huffman 6.
