About Israel Jones
Israel Jones- Closing a life of years, usefulness and honor, Israel Jones passed to his reward on Jan. 24, aged 74 years. As a young man he had been a member of the military company known as Letcher's Brocks Gap Rifles; and when the War Between the States began, he immediately espoused the Southern Cause and enlisted in Company B, 7th Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A., under the noted ASHBY, and served till the end. He was in the battle of Gettysburg and in most of the noted battles fought in Va., Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He was twice wounded and from the last wound , a saber cut across the head, came near bleeding to death. Comrades of the Neff Rice Camp, U.C.V., at Newmarket, Va. mourn the loss of this valued member.'
Israel Jones b. Sept. 12, 1830; d. Jan. 24, 1905; mar. Susan Garber b. 9.3.1841 [sic], d. 7.9.1859, mar. Susan Bowers b. 9.3.1841, d. 7.9.1929. He was married the first time 12.28.1854 by Elder Jacob Wine. His second marriage was 10.15.1860. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was wounded at Bolivar Heights. Taken prisoner near Darksville 12.19.1862. They were farmers and lived about six miles west of Timberville, Virginia. Members of the Reformed Church. No children by either marriage. Buried in County Line Cemetery.
