Marker inscription is in Polish: Translation: "HERE REST THE CORPSE OF THE SAINT JÓZEF BRUSKI HE WAS BORN ON SEPTEMBER 22, 1874 AND DIED DECEMBER 1899". The actual date of death is difficult to read but to my eye it says 1CO GRUDNIA 1899 R which would be 1 DECEMBER 1899.

The funeral was held from the Polish Catholic Church at Polonia Monday Morning. The deceased was about 28 years of age and was as honorable and upright a young business man as one could expect to find.
Biographical information: At the time of his death, his wife Catharine was 2 months pregnant with their second child). They lived above the General Store in Custer, WI. Joseph's mother had passed away only 10 months earlier. After her husbands death, Catharine and daughter moved to her parents farm near Custer. Note: the 1900 census shows Catharine and Agnes living with her husbands father (also Jozef - around April 1900).
From an interview with Helen Cadman Bruski in the 1980's it was revealed that this Jozef and his wife Katarzyna spoke what is known as "High Polish", not "Kashoob".
