About J. Alexander Gilbert

I was a shoe worker in Haverhill and married Beatrice (Maimie) and we had at least 7 children. One died of TB and another was fatally burned by scalding milk. He was burned so bad that he lost control of his reflexes and went into seizures. He suffered severely. Both my wife and I were very religious. We owned a farm near Whittier's Birth Place.
