About Melvina Deblois

Melvina (Malvina - spelled both ways) was the daughter of Ambrose and Lucy (Haines) Gilbert. She was a beautiful blonde girl with a bubbly personality who married a man, Edmund DeBlois who deeply loved her but was anything but a good husband to her. He drank heavily and was physically abusive to her. They had six children. He was devasted when she died on December 26, 1909 at the age of 36 years, 8 months. Melvina was caring for her sister Clara who was sick with pneumonia when she also came down with pnuemonia. She was buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Haverhill, MA on December 28, 1909, one day before their 16th wedding anniversary. They were married on December 29, 1893. Clara died January 12, 1910, just 17 days later. They were buried side by side. No marker was ever placed on the graves and at this time (Feb. 2008) the exact location is unknown.
