Jabez Perkins I married Hannah Lathrop, February 12, 1685, Ipswich, Essex Co., MA. Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to Norwich, CT where most all of their children were born.Hannah died in 1721. Following Hannah's death, Jabez married the widow, Charity Hodges Leonard, December 17, 1722, Norwich, CT. They had at least one daughter, Charity. A few years later two sons of Jabez married daughters of their step-mother, Charity.

Jabez Perkins was born 15 May 1677 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts Bay, son of Jacob Perkins and Elizabeth (Lovell) Perkins. Brother of Elizabeth (Perkins) Bordman, John Perkins, Judith (Perkins) Browne, Mary Ann (Perkins) Annable, Jacob Perkins, Matthew Perkins, Jacob Perkins Jr [half], Hannah Perkins and Joseph Perkins. 1st Husband of Hannah (Lathrop) Perkins — married 30 Jun 1698 [location unknown] 2nd Husband of Charity (Hodges) Perkins — married 17 Dec 1722 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut, British America. Moved to Norwich, CT. 1695, 28 Sep: Joseph PERKINS and his brothers Jabez and Matthew, coming from Ipswich, MA, bought of John FITCH 1200 or 800 acres of land lying in the forks of the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers, in the town of Norwich. This was in that part of Norwich afterwords the town of Lisbon, in the southern portion of it, known as Newent Society, supposedly named for Newent, Gloucestershire, England, from the neighborhood of which their grandfather, John Sr., apparently came, and in the locality afterwords known as "Perkins' Crotch." This property remained in the family until the period from 1804 to 1820.

HANNAH, born in Norwich, Jan. 6, 1677, and married, June 30, 1698, Jabez, son of Jacob Perkins of Ipswich, Mass. He and his brother Joseph had purchased, in 1695, a large tract of land in that part of Norwich which is now Lisbon. On which, after his marriage, he settled. He became one of the wealthiest and most honored citizens of Norwich. He was admitted inhabitant in due form in 1701, and died there Jan. 15, 1741-2. She was an excellent Christian woman, and died April 14, 1721, after which he married, for his second wife, Charity Leonard. His children by his first wife were: Jabez Perkins, born June 3, 1699, and married Rebecca Leonard, by whom he had eleven children-Jedidiah, a daughter, a son, Jabez, married Ann Lathrop, Elkanah, Rebecca, Samuel, Hannah, Charity, Charity 2d, and Samuel 2d; Hannah Perkins, born July 7, 1701, married Joshua Huntington, son of General Jabez, and for whose descendants see Huntington Family Memoir; Elizabeth Perkins, born in October, 1703; Mary Perkins; Jacob Perkins, born May 22, 1705, married Jemima Leonard of Taunton, Mass., and had thirteen children- Jacob, Jemima, Simeon, Jabez, Hezekiah, Ebenezer, Daniel, Elkanah, ZebuIon, Zephaniah, Lucy, Judith, and Mary; Lucy Perkins, born July 12, 1709; Judith Perkins, born March 2, 1714. 1701 Accepted as an inhabitant of Norwich, CT. Joseph and Jabez PERKINS were for a long time influential men and leading church members in that portion of the town of Norwich. Direct Ancestor of USA President Franklin D. Roosevelt. [3]

There has been some confusion between the Charity (Hodges) (Leonard) Perkins and her daughter Charity Perkins (born Norwich, 1724). The daughter Charity Perkins is listed on page 222 of the Vital Records of Norwich as marrying Ezra Lothrop of Norwich (son of Samuel & Deborah (Crow) Lothrop).

3. Jabez* Perkins 1st (Jacob,2 John1) was born in Ipswich, Mass., 15 May, 1677, and died in Norwich, Conn., 15 Jan., 1742. He, with his brothers Matthew and Joseph, removed from Ipswich and in 1695 bought in Connecticut about two thousand acres in the town of Norwich (afterward Lisbon) on which Jabez settled. The new settlement was called Newent in remembrance of the English home of the Perkins family. Joseph and Jabez were leading men in the affairs of the town and the church, and Jabez became one of the wealthiest and most honored citizens of Norwich. He was admitted freeman in 1701; and in May, 1721, was appointed and commissioned by the General Court to be Captain of the Fourth Company in the North East Society of Norwich. He was Deputy to the General Court at Hartford in 1720, 1722, 1723, 1728, and Justice of the Peace for New London County, 1732-1741.

He married first in Norwich, 30 June, 1698, Hannah Lathrop, born in Norwich, 6 Jan. 1677; died there 14 Apr., 1721; daughter of* Samuel and Hannah (Adgate) Lathrop; and married second 17 Dec, 1722, Mrs. Charity (Hodges) Leonard, born in Taunton, Mass., s Apr., 1682; died in Middleborough, Mass., 29 Feb., 1739; daughter of Henry and Esther (Gallup) Hodges and widow of Elkanah Leonard. ii. Hannah, b. 1701; d. 1788; m. (1) Oct., 1718, Capt. Joshua Huntington; m. (2) before 1748 Col. Samuel Lynde; m. (3) after 1766 Capt. Ebenezer Lathrop (10) (see page 118). Her son Gen. Jabez Huntington took a kindly interest in his young cousins Jabez and Simeon Perkins.
