In the 1880 federal census, in Raccoon Twp., Gallia County, Ohio, I find a Jackson Hughes, age 67 and Matilda Hughes, age 67. This would have these 2 being born around 1813. And who is Matilda? This Jackson Hughes and Matilda Hughes, age 57, are found in the 1870 federal census in Gallia County, Ohio with children, George, Sarah, Jacob, Mary, Leanetta and Leanier. This family is also in the 1860 federal census in Gallia County, with additional children. Cannot place them.

The 1850 does verify that Anderson was born while his parents were still in North Carolina, but it appears unlikely Anderson was sure of his birth date. Both a birth date calculated from given age at death and his age on the 1850 census record gives him a birth date quite some time before his parent's marriage.
