He married (2) Catherine Roop on June 22, 1815, in Carroll County, Virginia. She was the daughter of Heinrich Roop and wife Catherine Null.

Jacob is sometimes listed as being born in Montgomery County. This is not possible. Montgomery County was not formed until 1777, five years after his birth.
