  2. from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Strasburg VA, letter dated 21 June 1976: "Proof that Jacob Bushong married Eve Bossert can be found in Shenandoah County marriage register 1, 1781-1850, page 12. Jacob Bushong and Eve Bossert married Jan 1, 1784 after thrice publishing banns by Simon Harr [Lutheran minister]"
  3. 30 Sep 1792. Jacob & Eve Bushong (daughter of George Peter Bosset {sic} deceased) Shenandoah Co., to George Bible of Rockingham Co, 2 undivided thirds of 97 acres on the South Fork of Richardson's Lick. Tract purchased by George Peter Bosset dec'd from Charles Powers, the deed of record in Augusta Co. Bosset died intestate {with no will} survived by three daughters:Christina, Mary Catharine and Eve Catharine. Jacob Bushong has, since the marriage, purchased the interest of Mary Catharine Bosset in this tract, and he and Eve convey the two shares to Bible for 52 pounds. Signed Jacob Bushong, Eve (her mark) Bushong. Witnesses: John Roberts, John Bushong, John Hiner. Acknowledged by Eve in Shenandoah Co VA, before George Fravle & John Anderson, 29 Nov 1792.   4. 8 Mar 1796, between Jacob Bushong & Eve his wife of Shenandoah Co VA to Philip Snapp of same place, for 175 pounds, tract on the waters of the north river of Shanandoah, said land conveyed to Jacob Bushong by Philip Snapp by deed dated 28 Sep 1791.   5. 25 Apr 1807. Jacob Bushong of Columbiana Co OH buys land in Range 1 Township 8 Section 30 from William & Sarah Heald. (source: Columbiana Co OH Deed Records v.1 p218) It should be noted that two of Jacob's brothers (William & Peter) purchased land in Columbiana County in 1806, both being noted as "of Shenandoah Co VA"
  6. The Revolutionary War Pension application of Jacob Bushong, dated at Columbiana Co OH 15 May 1818 for his service as a private, artificer and gunsmith in the Virginia Line, gives his age as SIXTY FOUR YEARS (1818-64 = born 1754). This application gives details on the battles in which he fought, and his leg injury. (National Archives, Revolutionary War Invalid Pension #9297, for Jacob Bushong) Note that this piece of evidence stating his age exactly matches his baptism date. {also stated he was in the 2nd Regiment of the Virginia Line - Bushong Bulletin Vol 1 no. 1, pg1}
  7. On 13 Oct 1812, Jacob Bushong, candidate for representative to the State Legislature, was elected with 550 votes, first out of 5 candidates, representing Columbiana Co. (source: Columbiana Co Ohio Common Pleas Court Records, p48. Manuscript 1134, Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland OH) in addition, the Journal of the House of Representatives of the State of Ohio being the First Session of the Eleventh General Assembly held in the town of Chillicothe in the County of Ross. (source: Zanesville: printed by Sawyer & Chambers, 1812) This 259 page book shows how Jacob Bushong, representative from Columbiana Co., voted on every issue before the legislature.
  8. On 11 Aug 1819, Jacob Bushong of Columbiana Co OH, purchases from Andrew Pitzer & Sarah his wife of Columbiana Co, land in the NE quarter of Section 2 Township 15 Range 6 in Stark Co, a quarter section, for $1000. (source: Stark Co OH Deeds Vol D p253-254) Also, 14 Jan 1830, Jacob Bushong & Eve his wife of Stark Co OH to John Bushong of Stark Co OH, for $100, 30 acres in the NE quarter of Section 2 Township 15. Signed Jacob Bushong & Eve (her mark) Bushong. (source: Stark Co Deeds vH p621-622) This last deed proves to be Jacob & Eve's son John who married Anna Stover. This is verified when they sold this land.
  9. On 9 May 9 1827. "I, Jacob Bushong of Harrison Twp., Stark Co OH, to my much beloved wife Eve Catharina; to my oldest son John, 30 acres off the west side of the quarter section I now live on; to sons Samuel, Jacob, William, & Peter, daughters Elizabeth Windell, Catharina Hively & Sarah Kleckner; my son George deceased, leaving one son named Jacob. My loving wife Eve Catharina to be executor of this my last will. Signed: Jacob Bushong. {will probated in court 16 Aug 1830} (source: Stark Co Ohio Will Book B p53)
  10. On 27 June 1836, the verbal will of Catharine Eve Bushong, being a "memorandum of the words spoken by Catharine Eve Bushong...son Jacob; son Peter; son William; William's wife Caty; daughter Caty Hively; wearing apperral to my sons' wives, Jacob's wife, William's wife, & Peter's wife." Probated in court 5 July 1836. (source: Carroll Co OH Probate Record A p153) It should be noted that the family did not move, but the formation of the new county of Carroll in 1833 gave them a new location. It is the same land outlined in the Stark Co deeds
