About Jacob Gingrich
Having been born into a farming family, Jacob began his farming career shortly after returning from the Civil War. He had enlisted at the beginning of the war in April of 1861. It wasn't until 1888, after he and Susan had 10 children that he was able to purchase his own land which was 290 acres in Amity Township. The land had to be cleared of timber, which he cut and sold. Their 11th child Susan was born on this farm. In 1912, Jacob started receiving a Civil War pension of $21 per month. After his death in 1925, his widow Susan began receiving $30 per month for his service with the 8th Regiment of the Illinois Infantry.
In addition to the 10 children listed below, one son John relocated to California and no communication was heard from him after 1933.
