About Jacob Hertzler
The Hertzler-Hartzler Family History - family 4046.
- Jacob moved from Caernarvon Twp, Berks Co, Pa to Mifflin Co., Pa. in 1792. (HJ p.86) - In 1796 sold his place in Caernarvon Twp, Lancaster Co and moved to Big Valley Before 1800, he had a milling complex two miles east of Belleville that included a fulling, hemp, carding and sawmill. In 1798 he had a two story 16x18 log house, $120, containing 2 windows and 9 panes, also 166 acres, $1,966. (AmHom p. 132) - Jacob's Bible is in Goshen College Historical Library. His wagon box was found in the 1960's on the Tim Peachey farm (the Hertzler homestead). The sides and end are original, plus some of the hoops. - Died of consumption.
