Jacob's father Jacob Hillegonds, born in the Netherlands and since March 1895 widower of Guurtje (Gertie) Eriks, remarried on 25 November 1896, very likely in Chicago, the 12 years younger Christiana alias Christine Van Driel, born in the Netherlands too, since 17 April 1894 widow of Andrew Brink.

In June 1900 Jacob Hillegonds [Jr] (2 y, born in March 1898 in Illinois), his father Jacob Hillegonds (46, Aug 1853, Holland, labor foreman), his mother Christiana (34, June 1865, Holland), his (half- and step)siblings Gertie (20, November 1879, Holland, servant), Arie (19, April 1881, Holland, iron roller), Annie (16, May 1884, Illinois), John (11, June 1889, Illinois), Leendert [Blink] (9, Aug 1890, Illinois), Peter (9, Dec 1890, Illinois), Gerrit (8, May 1892, Illinois), Henry [Blink] (7, May 1893, Illinois) and Andrew [Blink] (5, Sep 1894, Illinois) lived in their own home at Wabash Avenue in Hyde Park Township, Ward 34 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1910 Jacob H (12), his father Jacob Hillegonds (57), his mother Christina (45), his siblings Leonard B Hillegonds (19), Gerhard (17), Henry B (16), Andrew (15) and Kate (7, Indiana) lived in the town or township of St. John, about seven miles south of Munster and Highland, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

On 12 September 1918 Jacob Hillegonds Jr was living with his family in the city of Hammond, nowadays with more than 80,000 people and the southern part of the Chicago metropolitan area, Lake County, Indiana and laboring at Standard Steel Car Company (SSC), manufacturer of railroad rolling stock that existed between 1902 and 1934, when he was administrated on a World War I Draft Registration Card.

Two months later, in November 1918, his father Jacob Hillegonds Sr died at the age of 65 years, very probably at his home in Hammond.

Jacob J Hillegonds married on 3 June 1925 in Lake County, Indiana at the age of 27 years to the six years younger Jennie Zwaanstra.

In 1930 Jacob Hillegonds (32), his wife Jennis (26, Holland) and their daughter Ethel (2, Illinois) lived in Lansing, Cook County, Illinois.

In April 1940 Jacob Hillegonds (42, fitter at a motor car co), his wife Jennie (36), their children Ethel (12), James (7, Illinois) and William (6, Illinois) lived at an own home, worth $4500, at Ray Street in -still- Lansing, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois. They lived in 1935 at the same house.
