Dead.
The Lord of life and death has in his wisdom seen proper to call from this life my brother
Jacob Korpi,
By an accident in South Hecla mine, Mich., on March 22nd, 1889, having lived 21 years, which I was left missing with sorrow and mourn with my wife, my children and my three sisters in America, and father, mother, brothers and sisters, and other relatives in Finland, which occasion is hereby let be know to all relatives and acquaintances.

Calumet'istä.
Tapaturmien aika on taas ollut tämän seudun kaivannoissa. Mennä tiistaina tapahtui ensimmäinen hengen waara Celumet Heclan pystysuorassa shaktissa, jossa 34-vuotias nainut englantilainen William James joutui laahingin eteen, joka häneltä musersi pään ja wasemman jalan niin pahoin, ettei tullut enää tunnollensa, ja kuoli seuraavana aamuna yhtiön hospitaalissa. Kaksi muuta miestä olivat samassa waarassa, mutta pelastuivat onnen kaupalla. -
Sitten perjantai aamuna joutui Etelä-Heclassa, eräs nuori suomalainen Jacob Korpi laesta putoavien kivien alle, jotka hänen musersivat silmänräpäyksessä hengettömäksi. Siitä nuorta miestä oli erinomaisempi onnettomuus seurannut. Kaksi kuukautta sitten häneltä ruhjoivat samsassa kaivannossa putoavat kivet käden, josta parannuttuansa hän meni jälleen työhön ja 2½ viikon kuluttua menetti henkensä.

From Calumet.
It has been time of accidents in the mines of this region. On the past Tuesday occurred the first fatal hazard in the upright shaft of Calumet Hecla, in which a 34 years old married Englishman William James happened to be in front of a blast which crushed his head and his left leg so badly that he never regained consciousness, and died the next morning in the company hospital. Two other men were also in jeopardy but were saved by sheer luck.
Then on Friday morning in South Hecla a Finnish youngster Jacob Korpi got under rocks which fell from the top and crushed him dead in a blink of an eye. That young man had encountered several extreme accidents. Two months ago he had got under falling rocks which crushed his hand in the very same mine, of which he had recovered and returned back to work, to lose his life after 2½ weeks.
