Jacob Pleunes was a carpenter from Orsoy, Germany and later also a deacon at the Cape. He married Willemyntje Ariens de Wit, widow of Detlef Bibault, on 2 October 1695 in the Nederduitsch Gereformeerde Kerk (Dutch Reformed Church), de Caep de Goede Hoop.
They had two sons, Johannes and Hendrik. Pleunes had a farm at Banghoek, Stellenbosch. Adam Tas called him "de hollebollige Jacob Pleunis." The word hollebolle often referred to someone with an insatiable apatite.
In 1710 his wife applied for a divorce because he had mistreated her often, but they were not divorced and at the time of her death in 1727 she is still listed as his wife.
