Jacob Riffle was born in Germany about 1725 and died in Lewis County VA in 1816. He arrived at the port of Philadelphia, PA aboard the ship "Phoenix", John Mason commanding, August 28, 1750.

    Settlement of Jacob's estate was recorded November 2, 1816 in Lewis County VA Will Book #1, pages 2-4.  He married Dorothy <nowiki>------</nowiki> in Harrison County VA about 1768.  Dorothy was born about 1745 and died in Braxton County in 1817.

Jacob and his brother Francis were some of the earliest settlers in present day Randolph County WV. Francis was killed by Indians about 1783 and Jacob and his family moved to Braxton County VA after 1816.

In the Randolph County, WV Deed Books the following deeds are recorded (not all were dated but mentioned the date of the original patent):

1) Jacob Riffle Sr. to Jacob Riffle Jr. - 100 acres on Three Mile Run a branch of Tygarts Valley River - $200. (Part of a 300-acre tract patented by the commonwealth of VA to Jacob Riffle Sr. dated July 21, 1791)

2) Jacob Riffle Sr. & Dorothy to Michael Nail - 10 3/4 acres & 5 poles on Three Mile Run, a drain of Tygarts Valley River - 5 shillings, lawful money. (Part of a 300-acre tract dated July 21, 1791 by Jacob Riffle.) (Michael Nail was Christina Riffle’s son.)

3) Jacob Riffle Sr. & Dorothy to Francis Rifflle - 90 acres on Three Mile Run, a drain of Tygarts Valley River - 30 pounds - (Part of a 300 acre patent dated July 21, 1791.)

4) Jacob Riffle & Dority to George Riffle - 124 acres on the head of Dry Fork of Haddens Mill Run - 5 shillings. (Granted by Henry Lee, Governor of VA to Jacob Riffel on October 20, 1792) including the Chestnut Flat. Jacob Riffle Sr. & Dorothy to Jacob Riffle Jr. - 124 acres on the head of Dry Fork of Haddens Mill Run, including Chestnut Flat - $50 (Patent by Henry Lee to Jacob Riffel on October 20, 1792). NOTE: This is the same parcel of land as Jacob sold to George above. Don’t know what happened here. No record I can find of a correction being made.

5) 23 Oct 1809 - Jacob Riffle to Adam See (admitted to Court 1809) 39 acres and 31 poles on the north side of Riffle’s Run - $100. (Part of tract purchased by Jacob Riffle from James Lackey, adjoining Adam See’s.)

6) 29 Aug 1811 - Jacob Riffle Sr. & Dolly - to John Currence - 188 acres on east-side of Tygart’s Valley River adjoining Jonathan Hutton, Adam See and George Long - $844.85
