About Jacob Rush
A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor # A100025
Jacob Rush settled in of Castile Run section of Morgan Twp about 1769. Family tradition claims he was a descendant of John Rush, an officer in Cromwell's army. Relationship is also claimed to Benjamin Rush, early Revolutionary Patriot. Patient maps of Morgan and Jefferson Twp. in Greene County show Jacob Rush receiving a warrant for a tract of land at the mouth of Castile Run dated July 24th 1784. Under the Title "Mathilda." Patented to him May 30th, 1793. Jacob Rush acquired many tract's of land, some including, "Pollack's Mills" "Stiles Old Mill Site."
Jacob Rush served with Captain Benjamin Stiles Company. First Battalion Washington Co. Militia in the war of the Revolution. 1782 roster also includes brother in law James, Abel and Nathaniel Bell.
Jacob possible married twice.
It is believed his first wife was Elizabeth Leonard. They were possibly the parents of Elizabeth, Jesse, and Leonard Rush.
Jacob was secondly married to Lydia Bell (1748-1828) daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah Bell. Jacob named in his will Lydia and the following children: Moses, Isaac (1770-1827), Nathaniel (1786-1867), Mathias (1789-1863 married Sarah Iams), Mary (1796-1870 - David Hays), Jesse (d 1827), Leonard (b 1769, Jemima Hormell), James (1770-1842 - Priscilla Case), Jacob (1761-1842), Nancy, Elizabeth, Hannah. Jacob and Lydia were members of Goshen Baptist Church.
Lydia is the wife named in Jacob Rush's will. They are buried in Cox Cemetery on Castile Run. Tombstone for Jacob Rush, died October 5, 1820 at age 82. Lydia's tombstone died January 3 , 1828. at 80 years.
