About Jacob Schafer, Free Settler "Caesar" 1855
Jacob was the son of Abraham Schafer and Barbara Frey of Leimen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Jacob, his wife Elizabetha Reinhard, Abraham and several of Jacob's siblings came to Australia in 1855 onboard the Catteux Wattel or Baroque Caesar. They arrived at Twofold Bay, NSW and were employed in the Eden area as vine dressers.
Jacob moved to Woolloomooloo, Sydney and became a publican at the Old Shamrock Hotel (now known as the East Sydney Hotel) in 1877.
Jacob was married 3 times: Elizabetha Reinhard, Annie Hart and Anne Briggs.
Jacob became a tobacconist, setting up shop in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane around 1890.
