Jacob was one of twelve children born to Abraham Slaughter and Joanna 'Anna' Scott. He was born in Oxford, North Carolina in 1814.
He married Elizabeth P. Howard on January 16, 1938 in Granville, North Carolina. They had eleven children and adopted one child. This child, Zadok, was born to Nancy Jane in 1880.
According to the US census records, Jacob was a farmer. According to the 1850 US Census Slave Schedule, Jacob owed one female slave in her 20's, and an infant male who was 6 months old.
Jacob died in Roxboro, Person County, North Carolina in 1897. He is buried at the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Person County, North Carolina.
