Jacob was the third child born to Henry Van Hyning and his first wife (name unknown). Jacob's mother passed away shortly after his birth. His father later remarried and Jacob had a total of 11 siblings.
The name of Jacob's first wife is unknown, but they married about 1796 and had five children.
It's recorded that Jacob 'had but one arm' on 17 March 1814 when he helped Daniel Dean build Dean's home in Wadsworth, Ohio, but it is not known how he lost his arm.
Jacob married his second wife, Lydia Lattimore, on 19 April 1823 in Portage County, Ohio.
(from 'The Van Hyning Family History' by June Herman Ely, p. 161)
Note: Jacob's second wife Lydia is buried here in Norton Center Cemetery, but a tombstone has not been identified for Jacob. There are several unreadable stones and one of them is likely Jacob's. He died about 1850 or shortly before.
