brief biography and family
also known as Jakob Welshantz
John Jacob was born 1716 in Germany, Celsas or Alsace, and died February 07, 1763 in York, Pa. He married Eva Elizabeth Schleppi October 27, 1740. He arrived in the United States in 1741 on the ship Lydia, and signed the Oath of Allegiance September 29, 1741. They settled in York County Pennsylvania.
From somewhere on Ancestry:
Jacob Welschans, age about 22, from Kirrberg, Diedendorf, and Rauwiller was also on Lydia. He too was about the same age as Abraham Knerr. It is easy to envision the close-knit ties among these Swiss families in the Alsace. Jacob Welschans' father Abraham had crossed the Atlantic in 1739 on the Robert and Alice. Abraham had married Anna Haschard, the daughter of Isaac Haschar. Christian and Abraham Haschar, ages 21 and 18, from Kirrberg were passengers on the 1741 Lydia. Abraham Haschar ended up in Northampton County. Jacob married just before emigrating; his wife was Elisabeta, daughter of the previously mentioned Adam Schlepi. Jacob's brother was Abraham whose wife was Margaret Brion.
