Na net meer as ‘n jaar nadat Johann aan die Kaap de Goede Hoop voet aan wal gesit het, het hy in die huwelik getree op 18 November 1714 in die Nederduits Gereformeerde Kerk (NGK) Kaapstad, ook bekend as die Groote Kerk. Sy bruid was die 30-jarige Jacomi(j)na Visscher/Visser.1-5,18,19 Hul huweliksbevestiging is deur ds. Johannes Godefridus d’Ailly (ca 1680 – June 1726) gelei, wat predikant was vanaf 1708 tot met sy afsterwe.19 Hy sou later ook die doopplegtighede van Johann en Jacomina se twee kinders waarneem.4,5
