Disputed wife and daughter

< Wikitree >

There is no documented proof that Jagley Bär married Mary Wilson nor had a daughter named Maria Eva Bear Zirkle. Findagrave.com is a great resource, however, it does not required documented proof. I checked Jane Evans Best's Bear Saga Update: Part Two. It did not list a wife for Jagley Bär nor a daughter for him. It was published by Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage, Oct., 1998. I, also, checked The California Bare, Bear, Bar Family Tree:Index of Individuals by Jonathan Bare. Again - no Mary Wilson nor Maria Eva Bear Zirkle.

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/B%C3%A4r-198

Jagley Bär has German Roots.

Jagley Bär was born on 30 Dec., 1683 in Hausen, Zurich canton, Switzerland. He emigrated from Hausen to Pennsylvania Colony with the Anabaptists about 1710. On 21 June, 1721 600 acres were surveyed in Lancaster Cty., Pennsylvania Colony to Jacob Bear[1]. On 14 Oct., 1729 citizenship was conferred by Pennsylvania Colony General Assembly[2]. May, 1730 one Jacob Bear license to sell rum by the small[3]. Note: Walter Harrington The names Bare and Bear are the various spellings of Bär; I believe that Jacob Bare, Jr and Jacob Bear are Jaglely Jacob Bär (Bär-198). About 1740, he moved to Brocks Gap in Shenandoah Valley, VA with his two youngest sons, John and Jacob[4][5]. About 1701 married Ann Frederick in Switzerland[6]. In 1709, Jagley was a tavern keeper in Ober Albis, Switzerland[7]. He apparently returned to Switzerland in 1720, as on Dec., 5, 1720, he participated in sale of uncle's dairy farm[8]. He returned to Leacock Twp, PA before June, 1721, when he was warranted 600 acres[9]. And was appointed road supervisor in Leacock in 1726[10][11]. Either in 1726 or 1724, he may have married Fronica Good[12]. Most likely, it was 1724; as his son Jacob Bär was born that year. By 1740, Jagley had moved to Shenandoah Valley, around Brock's Gap with his two sons, Jacob and John[13]. He passed away sometime after Dec., 1749[14].

Death: 1749: Elkton, Rockingham, Virginia[15][16]

Research Notes

Has he been confused with his son Hans Jacob Baer?

So far the only references I have found about spouses are at The California Bare, Bear, Bar family Tree. The reference above about Mary Wilson Bear is from Findagrave.com

  • From: <HeydtRiPa@@aol.com>
  • Subject: Baer/Bear

  • Looking for other researchers on the following Baer/Bear line:
  • Moved to Rockingham Co, VA by 1746, may have purchased 272 acres in 1740.
  • Two sons: Jacob Baer Jr 1724-1783/9 m. Anna Barbara Miller, d/o Adam and Barbara Miller; and
  • John Baer d1791 Rockingham Co (my line) m. Catherine/Elizabeth Miller, d/o Adam and Barbara Miller.
  • Fact 1 1719 Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania[17]
  • Fact 2 Dec 5, 1720: Participated with his sisters in the sale of his father's dairy farm in Ober Albis

Five thousand acres were warranted to land agents November 22, 1717. Much of it was surveyed in March 1720 to recent immigrants Hans Bar, Jacob Bar, Martin Bar, and Jacob Hooker. This land joined the land of Samuel Bar. These Bars were probably the sons of John Jacob Bar whose name was on the list of land transfers on the Conestoga in 1721. "Old Henry" Bar warranted 424 acres on the Conestoga river September 27, 1717. Jacob had 600 acres surveyed west of Hans Graeff the same month. Martin Bear was on the 1721 tax list. These notes were recorded from Jane Evans Best "Three Bears of Earl Township, Lancaster County, PA" and Pennsylvania Mennonite records. from Oct 1981 Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage magazine PP 12-27
