In the sources found about Jacob Ericksen (listed below) can be found out, that Jacob was Finnish - Norwegian origin. Some sources say, that he was from Finland, some that he was from Norway. Jacob Ericksen came to America from northern Norway, where there was a Finnish origin population. They had fled from poor living conditions in Finland during earlier decades. When there came a chance to move to America, many of them were willing to go. Many of them even had pre paid tickets from earlier moved relatives or from companies that wanted to hire them, f.ex. mining companies. It is said that these people first arrived to Michigan to work in the mines or as farmers in Minnesota or Wisconsin. A few of them moved to Canadian Pasific coast or to Oregon or Washington state to be fishermen or work in lumber business. According to sources found Jacob made his career as a fisherman and later as a light house keeper in Oregon.
