Aron "Jakub" Broniatowski was a "felczer" in Czestochowa, Poland. He served as the head of medical services in Częstochowa/Kielce area during the failed "January Uprising" against the Russians in 1863. He provided a university education to at least five of his eight children.

  • Today, a "felczer" would be someting like a hospital attendant but in the past it was like a doctor without diploma, more surgeon than anything else.

BRONIATOWSKI Jakub Aron (1840–1926), paramedic (felczer), patriotic and social activist. He was born on 16th October 1840 in Częstochowa, the son of weaver Moszek Mojżesz (1812? - 1863 Częstochowa) and Jetta née Zys.

Broniatowski was a senior felczer, who ran a medical practice in Częstochowa and in the city’s surroundings. In 1863, during the uprising, together with Dr. Julian Kalinka, he travelled to the surrounding forests in order to help wounded rebels.

At the beginning of the 20th century, he lived at Nowy Rynek 5 (pl. Daszyńskiego). He belonged to the “Dobroczynność” Charitable Society for Jews. In a memoir placed in the “Express Częstochowski” following his death, it stated that “he was a righteous man, extremely selfless, who gave aid to the poor”. He died on 24th March 1926 in Częstochowa and was buried in the local Jewish cemetery.

He was married to Helena Chaja née Russ. They had five sons - Romuald, Artur, Moszek (3rd October 1868 Częstochowa-), Henryk (28th November 1876 Częstochowa-) and Lutek Ludomir (1891-1898).
