About Romuald Broniatowski

Romuald Broniatowski was a surgeon, gynaecologist, and reserve officer in the Polish Army. He was born in the 10th May (or 8th June) 1879 in Częstochowa, the son of Jakub, a paramedic (felczer), and Chaja née Russ. He graduated in medicine from the University of Warsaw, receiving his degree on 21st December 1904. He was employed as the factory doctor in the “Warta” Spinning and Weaving plant. He also ran a private practice in Częstochowa. Following the outbreak of war in 1914, he was drafted into the Russian Army, where he served as a medical officer. He returned to Częstochowa in April 1918. From that year, he served as a physician officer in the Polish Army. He participated in the 1919-1921 war against the Bolsheviks. After transferring into the Reserve, from 1923, he worked in Częstochowa as head of the “Dobroczynność” Charitable Society for Jews Hospital, as well as doctor for the District Health Fund. In the mid-1920s, he suffered a stroke, the result of which was that he could no longer practise as a surgeon. He was a major in the Polish Army Reserve. He lived at Nowy Rynek (pl. Daszyńskiego) 8. He was a member of the TDdŻ and, from 1907, of the Częstochowa Medical Association. He died on 1st October 1925 in Częstochowa and was buried in the local Jewish cemetery.
