About James Blair
James Blair began the Five Mile House sawmill operation in 1856 with his brother John. It operated by steam and cut 8 to 10,000 feet of lumber a day. In 1860 they set up a second mill at Iowa Canyon, the Elk Horn Sawmill, which operated until 1870. About this time Matthew Blair joined them.
