James Blackman, in Jacobus, Donald Lines. History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield. (New Haven, Conn.: The Tuttle, Morehouse & Taylor Company, 1930-1932), 1:83. 'Blackman, James, s. of Adam. Will at "Orinoge" 18 July 1689, proved 7 Nov. 1689; wife Miriam; ... brothers Samuel Wheeler, Moses Wheeler, ... Married (1) ----- Stiles, dau. of Francis. Married (2) Miriam Wheeler, dau. of Moses, b. 28 Mar. 1647. She m. (2) Edward Groom, by whom she had a dau. Mary.'

Notes for MIRIAM/MIRIAN WHEELER: --ancestor of all those named Blakeman or Blackman in the towns of Huntington, Monroe and Newton; --all sources claim she must have been married about the age of ten??? --another source caught the error, but seeing that her first child was born in 1658 a marriage date of 1657 is only unusual in the fact that would have made the mother ten years old; --name is given as Mirian in the vital record of Stratford;--

Notes for JAMES BLAKEMAN: --ancestor of all the people by the name of Blakeman and Blackman in Huntington, Monroe, Newtown and Brookfield. --if he died 1689, he could not have married Bathsheba Pierson in April 1708;--son of Adam or Aaron?;

Date and place of birth have also been (erroneously?) reported to be:

  • circa 1624 at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut
  • circa 1631 at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut

possible 1st cousin of his wife Miriam Wheeler

Date of death has also been (erroneously?) reported to be 1681.
