3776. Roger BUCK died on November 10, 1693 in Woburn, MA. He was born ~1617 in England. Came from England in 1638 and settled in Cambridge, MA. with father, William.
A land grant of the General Court of Land in Shawshene (Billerica) 7 MAR 1643 was given, but no division seems to have been made until 1652. Among the grants were: Roger Buck, Lot No.5, containing 10 acres. William Buck, Lot No.91, containing 20 acres. Roger was a plowright and served for a time as Public Executioner, in which capacity he was ordered to inflict twenty lashes upon a culprit in 1668. Whether the order was carried out by him does not appear in the record.
Savage's Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of Mass. list Nathaniel, Samuel and Ann as children of Roger. Other records claim a Nathaniel and Ann with corresponding dates as children of Samuel and Rachel Leven Buck. The latter is assumed here. Also assumes is that Samuel Buck, b. 1669 is also a child of Samuel and Rachel.

- Mary Buck was born in Cambridge, MA June 23, 1648.(7) Mary died August 31, 1669 in probably, Cambridge, MA, at age 21. "Gen. and Personal Memoirs of Worcester Co. MA" gives birth date as January 23, 1648; died unmarried Aug 31, 1669.
- Lydia Buck (ca 1650-). Married Henry Smith.
- Ruth Buck was born in Cambridge, MA November 6, 1653.(8) Ruth died at age unknown.
- Elizabeth Buck was born in Cambridge, MA July 5, 1657.(9)

- 10-19-1664: A petition of the inhabitants of Cambridge sent to the General Court of "Massachusetts Colinie" a charter to "petition His Majesty for his royal favour in the continuance of the present establishment of all privileges thereof and that we may not be subjected to the arbitrary power of any who are not chosen by this people according to their patent" , was signed by Roger.
- Attached to this is a similar petition signed by the same members of the "train band and single men who desire to manifest themselves of the same mind with our parents, masters and the aged men and householders of the peace." Among the signers is the name of Samuel Buck

- "History of Buckfield, Oxford County, Maine" by Alfred Cole and Charles F. Whitman, 1915, p.548, says that, according to tradition, Roger was 18 years old when he came to America.

In point of time, the next of the family to arrive in America were William Buck, then aged 60, and his son Roger, aged 18. They, with other emigrants, left England in April, 1635, on the ship "In- crease," Captain Robert Le Master, and disembarked at Boston a month later. It appears by the certificate, signed by the justices and ministers of the place where they had resided, and which they exhibited to the Master of the vessel before embarking, that they had " taken and subscribed to the oaths of allegiance and supremacy " tf) the government and discipline of the Church of England." This they had done, no doubt under compulsion, and witli the al- ternative of being thrown into prison. The ship's register shows that William was a "plow-rite" — a person who makes and mends plows, — ^but there is no entry in the record of the particular place of his nativity. He and his sou Roger wen"t directly to Cambridge, then in process of settlement, Avhere in 1652 the town granted Wil- liam twenty acres out of tli e "Cambridge Survey" (Lot 91). Tliis lot was in the west field northeast from Garden Street, where was formerly one of tlie highways leading to the great swamp, now called Raymond Street. It butted on the stream which divides Woburn from Cambridge, and on the Winthrop farm. Here Wil- liam bnilt his family residence. He died intestate January 24, 1658, and was buried in the (31d Cemetery at Cambridge. His wife (i)ame unknown), had died before his departure from England. His son Roger, who inherited all his property, was appointed his ad- ministrator in April fullowing (1658).

James Buck came from Hingham, Norfolk in 1638 on the Diligent to Hingham [NEHGR 15:26, 121:11; HiBOP 80; MBCR 1:376; Hingham Hist 2:96]. He is not the son of William Buck, of Cambridge!!!

The origins and parents of Christian Buck are unknown according to the Great Migration. he arrived 1635 on the Blessging. He is on the passenger list only and there is no evidence of him in New England! See GM

Bio
Christian Buck (also known as Emmanuel Enoch), son of William Buck of Cambridge, England, and Margaret Buck, was born c.1609 in Padbury, Buckhinghamshire, England. He was 26 when he came to America on the barque "Blessing" in July 1635, ship's master was John Lester. The ship's passenger list has him listed as Christian Beck. He may have had a brother with him as well, as there is a Henry Beck age 18 listed. A total of 31 passengers made the long trip across the Atlantic. He died in 1699 at the age of 90 in Scituate, Plymouth, Massachusetts.
