In WW1 James was a Conscientious objector: Sentenced to 2 years. Appeal: Public interest, hardship, religion. Notes: CM classed him CO (Methodist); Religious Advisory Board classed him religious objector (Methodist, preacher for 7 years)

Missionary work in the Middle East with his wife, Florence. They worked with Arabic and American people, mainly in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Cyprus. they also ran an Orphanage for Arabic girls.

James was the author of a few books, ‘The sigh of the river and other stories’, ‘Palestine, land of my adoption’ and he was working on the biography of Dr Olley when he died.
