About James Cobb, III
In 1815, John Campbell (father-in-law) and James Cobb established a mercantile business together named "Campbell & Cobb.
In an equity record from Abbeville, SC 1821 - a suit suggests that J. Cobb and John Campbell were partners in trade - in "Campbell's Mills" (lumber saw mill) begun in Abbeville County, SC, about 1811 - post office establ....there - first postmaster James Cobb.........and a "telescope newspaper" in Columbia that had gone bad. Their partnership was ended as John became apprised of the fact that James was embezzling more & more of the profits that should have gone to John. Even after John died in 1822 - the fight over his estate went on for several years.
