About James Edward "Jim" Handy, Sr.
James Handy's parents were Edward Handy (1836 - 1872) and Marion aka Merve Ruthven - Handy-Satchell (1839 - 1903)
Jim Handy was born in 1867 in Sunnidale Twp. (now part of Clearview Township, Simcoe County).
His father died when Jim was not quite 5 years old leaving Jim and his 3 siblings,
Julius, Isabella and Henry fatherless until his mother married Tom Satchell in 1873. Three little Satchells arrived from this marriage, Mary, Maggie and Bill.
As young man Jim worked in the woods of Michigan,
perhaps with his uncle Jesse, returning to Sunnidale
in 1895 to marry Ida Russell.
Together they went to Absaraka, N.D. where they lived from 1897 to 1905. They then returned to Ontario, living in Midhurst on the farm owned by James D. Russell who had died in 1912. Jim and Ida lived in Midhurst until 1922 and then moved to Dalston. They owned the farm just across the road from the United Church.
