James Henderson Duff, a Senator from Pennsylvania; born in Mansfield (now Carnegie), Allegheny County, Pa., January 21, 1883; graduated from Princeton University in 1904; student at the University of Pennsylvania 1904-1906; graduated from the law school of the University of Pittsburgh in 1907; admitted to the bar the same year and commenced the practice of law in Pittsburgh, Pa.; attorney general of Pennsylvania 1943-1947; Governor of Pennsylvania 1947-1951; member of the Pennsylvania Pardon Board; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1950 for the term commencing January 3, 1951, and served until January 3, 1957; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1956; engaged in the practice of law in Washington, D.C., until his death there December 20, 1969; interment in Chartiers Cemetery, Carnegie, Pa.
