4 December 1533: Charter made in favour of James Hamilton of Finnart, His heirs in remainder are named as Andrew Hamilton, his bastard son (ejus filio naturali) and his heirs; James Hamilton, senior, his bastard son, James Hamilton, junior, also his bastard son; and James Hamilton, Earl of Arran. This charter was confirmed under the Great Seal of Scotland on 30 December 1533. RMS 1513-46: charter number 1330

17 September 1534: Charter by which James V, King of Scots, confirms to Sir James Hamilton of Finnart, the lands and barony of Avondale, the lands and barony of Crawfordjohn, and many other lands. The lands are to be held by Sir James and his lawfull male heirs, whom failing by his bastard son Andrew Hamilton and his lawfull heirs, whom failing by James Hamilton, his bastard son by Mariotam Stewart, and his heirs, whom failing by Alexander Hamilton, his bastard son, and his heirs, whom failing by James Hamilton his bastard son by Elizabeth Murray, and his heirs: "Jac. H. filio naturali inter dictum Jac. H. de F. et Eliz. Murray procreat, et heredibus etc." Failing all of these the lands mentioned were to pass to James, Earl of Arran, and his heirs, whom failing to his brother Gavin Hamilton and his heirs.
