James Henry Hart, Jr.

James Henry Hart, Jr. was born in Accomack County, VA in circa 1835. He was the 4th child born to James S. Hart, Sr. and Mary E. Killmon, both of Accomack County, VA.

James Henry Hart, Jr. (1835-1884) and Susan Anne Hart (Rayfield)(1836-1889) were the parents of Rebecca Davis Holmes. The couple was married on July 11, 1855 in Accomack County, VA. At their marriage, James Henry Hart, Jr. was age 21 and his occupation was a Waterman and a Farmer. Susan Anne Rayfield was age 19 and a ward of John Arlington, who gave consent.

1870 Census: lists James as head of household - 35 year old sailor; Susan A., 34; John D., age 9; Rebecca D., age 5; Levi J., age 5 and Arinthia Mears, 23 year old housekeeper.

Children of James H. Hart, Jr. & Susan A. Rayfield: Laura A.J."Jean" Hart (b-9/21/1857 d-12/4/1863); John D. Hart (b-c 1861); Rebecca D. Hart (b- c 1865) and Levi J. Hart (b- c1865).

James Hart, Jr. and Susan A. Rayfield moved to Baltimore, MD. They are buried together at the Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore, MD.

Note: James Hart's place of birth is incorrectly reported as Tennessee on his Find-A-Grave Memorial. He was born in Accomack County, VA. Also, the Capt. inscribed on his grave marker is for his position as Capt. of a ship.
