James Jennings 3, together with his mother Mary Jennings (30), (his father died as they were leaving Portsmouth), were members of Ford's Party of 42 Settlers on the Weymouth.
Party originated from Wiltshire.
Departed London, 7 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town on 16 April 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth15 May 1820.
Area Allocated to the Party : Lynedoch River
------------------------------------------------------------------
Name changed from JENNENS to JENNINGS (probably an error when arriving in South Africa as 1820 Settler).
This is James Junior, son of James Senior, who sailed with his mother Mary from Portsmouth for South Africa with the Ford Party of 1820 Settlers. James Senior took ill and was taken ashore off Spithead and admitted to Hasler Hospital. Before Mary could be taken ashore a storm blew up and the Captain had to put to sea with mother and child aboard. His grandfather Thomas Jennens was informed that James Senior had passed away, which news only reached Mary after arrival in South Africa.
