Son of David Jones and Hannah Maria Wayland
James Jones was born about 1640 in Virginia, a son of David Jones (born 1594 in London, Kent, England, settled in Virginia in 1624, and died between 1665 and 1673 in Charles City County, Virginia). James Jones married his first wife, Miss Lewis, who was a daughter of Christopher Lewis. Christopher Lewis mentioned James Jones as son-in-law and named him Executor of his Surry County, Virginia, will which was dated 1 September 1673 and Probated 20 October 1673 in which Mary Jones, a daughter of James Jones, was given a legacy.
David Jones and his wife had three children: John Jones who died in 1657 and left three children; James Jones (1640-1719); and Richard Jones whose wife was Frances, had daughters Ann and Mary, was a Reverend, and died 30 August 1665.
James Jones Land Grant in Weyanoke Parish, Charles City County, Virginia, in 1683 and in Surry County, Virginia, in 1702.
Five children of James Jones and Miss Lewis were: Mary Jones who married (1) John Williams and (2) Richard Darden; Elizabeth Jones who married (1) Thomas Chappell and (2) Thomas Taylor; Hannah Jones who married John Cooke; Rebecca Jones who married William Cooke; and James Jones, Jr. who married Rebecca.
James Jones married a second wife named Sarah who was a widow. James Jones Will Dated 6 April 1719 and Probated 12 May 1719 in Prince George County, Virginia, named his wife Sarah and her two sons; James Jones' son James; daughter Mary Darden and her son Charles Williams; daughters Elizabeth, Hannah and Rebecca; granddaughter Jane Cooke daughter of John Cooke (page 350).

A letter from wife (2) Sarah Jones dated 20 Apr 1719 stated she was satisfied with provisions for her in the James Jones' will.
