Military Service:

James F. King served his country in the Civil War. He enlisted as Private on August 4, 1862, in Company E, 14th Cavalry Regiment Kentucky. Mustered out on March 24, 1864 in Camp Nelson, KY. sources: report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky. (KYRoster) Published in 1866 by Harney.

In this regiment, 2 officers died of disease or accident, 14 soldiers were killed, and 64 soldiers died of disease or accident. Fourteenth Cavalry--Col., Henry C. Lilly; Lieut.-Col.,Andrew Herd; Majs., Joseph W. Stivers, Alfred Smith, John C. Eversole, Robert T. Williams.

Battles:

In Jan. 1863, Major Stivers, with 150 men of the regiment, dashed upon a band in Powell County, captured its leader and 11 men, and took their horses, guns, etc. The regiment was engaged in numerous skirmishes, and was continuously marching.
