JAMES MACDOWALL

First Marriage
James Macdowall married Isabel Peter. She was the daughter of Thomas Peter of Crossbasket and Cardarroch. The request for proclamation of marriage was booked at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland, in February 1770 [Glasgow Marriages]. Darryl Lundy's Peerage reports that the marriage took place in 1769. Second Marriage
James Macdowall married, secondly, Margaret Jamieson, daughter of Neil Jamieson, in 1782. He died on 30 May 1808 at age 56 at St. Lucia. He was a West India merchant at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He held the office of Baillie of Glasgow in 1786. He held the office of Baillie of Glasgow in 1789. He held the office of Provost of Glasgow between 1790 and 1797. He was auditor of excise and import duties in Scotland between 1800 and 1808 Darryl Lundy's Peerage
