About James Maddox

James Maddox, the first born of immigrant Cornelius, married Mary ____ prior to 1714, according to Parkville Mo genealogist Roberta Wiley. She says he lived in the vicinity of Charles Town, also known as Port Tobacco and at the time of his death, he left a widow and four children. The name of only one child is known with certainty, Notley Maddox (Maddocke) and a second, probably Walter Maddox. https://sites.google.com/site/maddoxfamilywebsite/virginia-maddox-s...

The ancestry on this line of Maddox's was incorrrect but after hassles with its creator, it's been replaced and repaired by JC. The central records needing investigation include

The Notley Maddox b 1738 in CHARLES MARYLAND d 1801 in KY (Family Search LJKQ-TKQ)

married Violetta Boswell b 29 May 1737 St MARYS PARISH, CHARLES CO, Colony of Maryland 1737 d 1832 in Shelby KY
They had 8 children, including Hezekiah Maddox b 1777-1847 FamSearch ID L6XW-7HX including others, Sarah 1761, James b 1765, Elizabeth b 1770, Charlesj 1773, Townley, (possibly 1773) and Mary 1783.

The Notley Maddox b 1738 was one of 4 sons of Notley Maddocke b 1714 d 1786 FamSearch ID LJVR-RPM and wife
Elizabeth Martin B 1710 ID KPQ5-595. They are descendants of immigrant Cornelius Maddox.

Their four boys were (note the spelling changed with these chidlren)
James Maddocke (sic) b 1734 d 1798 KF5K -S1F Henry Maddox b 1735 GFKJ KBX
George Maddox "Abt b 1738" (sic) Charles City, Charles Md (no death date) MhZW-R4H and
Notley Maddox b 25 Jun 1738 CHARLES CO MD (sic) d before 3 Jun 1801. MASON CO KY LJKQ-TKQ

(I have his will from Mason Co KY; He was wrongfully alleged to have had a first ame of "William Notley" but it ws a misplacementl no official records to suggest that, including his will, which begins, "I, Notly...".(sic) Notley's will only mentions "My beloved Violetta...) without mentoning any maiden name, of course)

It was incorrectly reported the Notley b 1738 married Violetta TARVIN and her death report was found and she had some descendants. Violetta BOSWELL's lineage in Maryland (Fam Search 9455-2TZ) is well documented as is her death in Kentucky. Note tat Boswell's Family Search record was last changed in 2022 by Diana Bara and 2016 by Sharon McCardell Bara gets the credit for the find!

This family migrated after the Revolutionary War (sometime around 1780) from Charles County MD and presumably traveled overland and then barged the Ohio River, landing at Covington KY, across from Cincinnati OH. Not all of this Notley's children came with him; some were found in Maryland and this Notley deeded his land there to others, according to documents discovered by Diana Bara, a Colorado genealogist around 2000. Her work relating to the misplacement of the father Notley was published on my website, "Maddox Family Website" which I eventually let become unlisted after the corrections;I still have the incorrect books containing the original errors Bara discovered and she has the documents to prove it.

The original ABOUT text of this record cites my own discontinued MaddoxfamilyWebsite quoting Roberta Wiley of Parkville Mo. Perhaps the danger is that there are old, poorly researched, incorrect GEDCOM files that occasionally get uploaded to this day. Later genealogists must be warned that our digitized data is better today than decades ago and for this line, it's helpful to compare what you think is right with other trees, like the Mormon's FamilySearch couple that comply with Bara's findings.. byron maddox, webmaster b 1946, write me at maddoxfamilywebsitekc@gmail dot com
