James Mallory, born about 1759, son of Philip Mallory and Lucinda Pines. He apparently moved from Fauquier County, Virginia to Berkeley County, (West) Virginia. There seems to be confusion about this family.
Married (1) 1792, Elizabeth Dowell
Married (2) Sarah ...
Mallory Smith places his birth about 1790 and identifies him as the James Mallory who was granted 120 acres in Warren County, Illinois, 20 February 1818 for service as a private in Schyler’s Company, 29th Infantry, and as the James who appears on the 1820 census at Lynchburg, Berkeley, West Virginia. It seems likely that these two marriages represent two different men, perhaps father and son.
