About James Mason 'Tyger Jim' Anderson
James Mason Anderson was the son of David Anderson, patriot with the rank of Captain during the American Revolutionary War, and his wife Miriam (nee Mayson) Anderson. He was given the nickname 'Tyger Jim' due to the location of his residence on the Tyger River in South Carolina. Tyger Jim was a lifelong resident of South Carolina.
James married Mary 'Polly' Miller, daughter of Michael Miller, a patriot of the American Revolutionary War, and his wife Nancy (nee Vernon) Miller, on 22 February 1810 in South Carolina and they had issue:

Tyger Jim acquired the Anderson Mill in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1831. It is one of the oldest mills in the United States still located on it's original stone foundation.

- John Crawford Anderson who served as Adjutant, 13th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers.
- William Washington Anderson who served as Colonel of the Georgia State Line Regiment.
- Michael Miller Anderson who served in a Georgia Regiment.
- James Alexander Anderson who served in the 2nd Alabama Cavalry, he was wounded at Stone Creek.
- Franklin Leland Anderson served as Captain in the Cashville Beat Company.
- Mason Gilliland Anderson served as Captain in the A.B. Cole's Company.
