James at one time was the owner and proprietor of The Moore House, a hotel in West Reynoldsville, PA, formerly owned by his cousin Frank Best and then known as Best House. (Scott, "History of Jefferson County", p. 625, publ. 1888).
In Sept. 1887, Winslow township was divided into 2 election districts, with the citizens of East Winslow voting at Prescottville, and the election for West Winslow was held at The Moore House (Scott, p. 612).
