The LALLA ROOKH sailed from London on 9 March 1849 and arrived at Port Natal(Durban), South Africa on 9 May 1849.
A barque of 372 tons nm built at St Helier, Jersey 1839 by Edward Allan. Her Captain was Henry Kenney and the surgeon Mr L.Moore. ________________________________________________________________________________
In 1882 James Edward placed the following advertisement in “The Times” - London:1 August 1882 "If this should meet the eyes of G. Moulder, Thomas Moulder, Alfred Williams or T.F. Crawford, 54th Regiment, they can hear of me, JAMES MOULDER, who left England, March 1849, on the ship Lalia Rookh – Pretoria, Transvaal, June 1882".
G. Moulder and Thomas Moulder were two of his brothers, while TF Crawford was a brother-in-law. ________________________________________________________________________________
During the Boer War the water driven grain mill and house on the farm Palmietfontein, was burnt to the ground by the British Soldiers. One of the original mill stones was donated to the Pietersburg Museum during 1975 by George Moulder (b. 1939)- a great grandson
