Baskin & Co, Historical Publishers, Chicago, IL, Reprinted by UNIGRAPHI, Inc, Evansville, IN),Part II, pg 284/285 in Cyrus' biography states that James was born 4 Dec 1781 in Orange Co, NC, and came to Crawford Co, IL in 1818. He lived in Crawford Co, IL until he died in 1852, and was a son of John Newlin of NC.

BIOGRAPHY: From correspondence between Edna Kirk to Virginia Luna The James Newlin family is one that most intermarried with the John Hill, Sr. family. Appraisal ordered Pg 401, 19 Dec 1853 Andrew Newlin administrator of the estate of James Newlin senior, deceased, submitted appraisal, sale bill, inventory of notes, cash and accounts. Pg 470, 3 Oct 1854 Andrew Newlin administrator of the estate of James Newlin senior, deceased, submitted settlement. He was ordered to distribute funds to heirs at law of James Newlin senior, deceased: John Newlin, junior; Andrew Newlin; Hiram Newlin; Abraham Newlin; Oliver Newlin; Nathan Newlin; Cyrus Newlin; and Frances Guyer guardian of Marvin and Marinda Newlin, heirs at law of Alfred Newlin, deceased.
