About James Madison Ward Pettigrew
James W. appears in Botetourt Co. 1850 census as a slaveholder, and 1870 and 1880 census in Campbell Co. Calculating from census records, he was born in 1812.
From "Botetourt County Marriages, 1770-1853" by Vogt & Kethley. Vol. I, pg. 237: James W. Pettigrew & Mary H.T. Newell, 2 Feb 1839; d/o Nancy, bond John S. Martin, wit- Alfred A. Eskridge, min- Henry H. Paine (Presby.), married 5 Feb 1839.
If the middle name of this James W. is truly Ward, then maybe he is also a descendant of John and Mary (Ward) Petticrew/Pettigrew, perhaps a son.
