Son of Texas pioneers Gadi F. West and Mary Polly Bivins, who came to Bevil District, Texas in 1829 from Louisiana. Sam Houston granted Gadi West 4000 acres north of Houston, Texas in what became known as Westfield, named for Gadi. The Mueschke Cemetery was originally called the West Cemetery, before the land was sold to Mr. Mueschke, a friend and neighbor of Gadi West. Many of the Wests and their descendants such as the Fussells and Roaches, are buried in the cemetery, where Gadi and Mary West are said to be buried. Son James Riley West Sr. is buried in the Meuschke Cemetery, but his headstone was stolen sometime in the past 20 years.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jun 13 2022, 15:02:06 UTC
