"one of three trustees of his father's estate (1879)
"at the age of sixteen he entered his father's factory" < and produced teeth... This would have been during the Civil War when false teeth were at a premium, as soldiers were required to have a certain complement of teeth in order to be able to open powder cartridges to be able to reload. "During the Civil War, soldiers were required to have six upper and six lower teeth to bite off the end of a powder cartridge. Dr white led the American Dental Association and met with Abraham Lincoln with a proposal to provide dental services to the Union soldiers, though nothing came of it because of logistics issues."
address in 1918: 5528 Wayne Ave., Germantown, Phliadelphia, PA
